Halloween Photoshoot 2017 by Fanny & Fiona-

What is a zombie? In Martinique and Haiti it could be a general term for spirit or ghost, any disturbing presence at night that could take myriad forms. But it has gradually coalesced around the belief that a bokor or witch-doctor can render their victim apparently dead – either through magic, powerful hypnotic suggestion, or perhaps a secret potion – and then revive them as their personal slaves, since their soul or will has been captured. The zombie, in effect, is the logical outcome of being a slave: without will, without name, and trapped in a living death of unending labour.

Halloween is celebrated each year on October 31, that has roots in age-old European traditions. It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints; soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating and carving jack-o-lanterns. Around the world, as days grow shorter and nights get colder, people continue to usher in the season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

Halloween Makeup Artist London 2017

Halloween is the busiest night of the year for makeup artists.  Some clients book months in advance.  Makeup is durable and built to last the whole day so will only require some light retouching-I always use waterproof long-lasting makeup for clubbers and party people!
Please don't be late-bare in mind others are waiting and this puts their nights back too! Thank you for your understanding.
GROUPS-I can book large groups in and for a slightly cheaper cost per head but only with at least 6 weeks notice and will require additional makeup artists-I will not give time slots for this and will consider this a priority booking-I will require a 50% deposit to hold the date.
1 person
£85 Individual Makeup including Travel (Makeup with lashes, gems, waterproof products & latex)
£120.00 Makeup and Hair Including Travel
2 people
£75 Makeup Only including Travel
£100 Makeup and Hair including Travel
3 people
£65 Makeup Only including Travel
£85 Makeup and Hair including Travel
With 15 years experience; I feel the prices are relevant and fair for my experience and up to date training. Quality not Quantity!  I'm sorry I don't do discount on Halloween as its so busy so please don't ask!-40% of the final fee will be required as a deposit to hold the date)
Please send an image of yourself and your design over as soon as you have it.  I will need to ensure that the design will work and that I have all the appropriate items in my kit to create the look.  I aim for designs to be long lasting so this may mean slightly additional products which may need to be ordered at least a week in advance.
Face Painting designs-Skin must be free from product and if possible without moisturiser-oil on the skin will make the design lift and move about
Facial Hair-Certain designs will not be appropriate with facial hair or beards. Skin should ideally be shaved at least half an hour prior to application to help skin sensitivity.
If you cannot remove them please think whether the design will work with a beard or if you can change your mind.  The only designs that work with beards are textured like skulls-but this entails glueing the beard down, adding wax and then latex which is not a quick experience! If your design requires intricate work-this will not be possible with a beard!

Titania Hair & Head Piece: Character, Fancy Dress & Costume
23rd September 2017
Midsummer Nights Dream-Head piece, hair & makeup by Fiona Tanner for FTMakeup London.
I meshed together flowers, horns, branches, leaves and butterflies to create this head dress for the fairy Queen. I plaited Emma's hair, then put in pre made hair pieces, including renaissance style plaits. Finally I wove in the rest of the foliage and butterflies.
Titania is a character in William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the play, she is the queen of the fairies. Due to Shakespeare's influence, later fiction has often used the name "Titania" for fairy queen characters.

1940s Vintage Lovelies for Central London Hen
17th June 2017

Fiona Tanner for Lipstick and Curls June 2017

On the 17th June 2017, Italian born Lucia and I were booked by specialist Vintage company Lipstick and Curls.  We provided vintage makeup and hair skills for budding 1940's and 50's vixen's.  Vintage makeup artist Fiona Tanner and colleague transformed the Hen Party Girl's into pin ups for their special night out.

Firstly, hair was sprayed with Baptiste dry shampoo to remove any excess oil and to enhance the ability to tease the hair.  Additionally, hair was sectioned and then curled using tong's of various sizes; depending on the style.

A teasing  hair spray was then applied so that the the curl could be structured and strengthened.  Most noteworthy, Bobby pins were crossed under each curl and then a hair pin pushed against and under to secure the creations.  Dax shine wax and finishing spray was applied to hold the style.

Fiona Tanner, a vintage makeup artist and hair stylist then applied eye makeup for several ladies.  She emphasised brows, eye liner and lashes in a typical retro vintage style.  Further more; moisturiser and oil-control with primer was then applied to each lady.  With a foundation, concealer, light contour of the face and blusher.  Finally, red lips were smoothed on to finish the look.

It is worth noting that Fiona has 15 years experience in makeup.  Additionally, she boasts 8 years specialising as a vintage makeup artist and vintage hair stylist.  She is never more happy then creating this classic and flattering style. With 4 years of fashion history lessons under her belt; she is very aware and informed about makeup and hair styles, influences and fashions of the 20th Century and beyond.  She is the go-to girl for any retro beauty look.

As well as vintage makeup artist skills, Fiona also works as a photographer and retoucher so she is perfect for a birthday or Christmas day treat as a pin-up photographer or boudoir photographs...she also give styling advice.

Vintage Hairdresser London based FT for Lipstick & Curls-WW2 Event Dover Castle

Vintage hairdresser London FT for Lipstick and Curls

On a beautiful May Bank Holiday Weekend, Vintage Hairdresser London living Fiona Tanner took a trip down to Dover to undertake Vintage Victory Rolls for a number of guests at the Dover Castle WW2 Weekend.  We had to do speed hairdo’s ideally in 15 minutes for ladies and young girls frequenting the event that weekend.

WWII Weekend-27 May 2017 – 29 May 2017

It was a full-on forties experience.  This year 201y is the 100th anniversary of the WRENS, and marked 77 years since Operation Dynamo.  Guests soaked up the atmosphere in the military encampments, getting up close to a replica Spitfire and even got chance to experience a mock battle.

For the ladies; they could learn about the Land Girls, get a victory roll hair do by Kate, Jennifer and Fiona from Lipstick and Curls vintage hairdresser London team.

Visiters got the chance to experience a bomb scene of a replica of a bombed shop and discovered the austerity of the war years from the Ministry of Food.

Live band’s were playing music from the 40s.  There were plenty of hands-on activities for children including a brand new assault course – it’s was one of English Heritage’s biggest events of the year and was a real day to remember.

Elysium Coaching by M McCaw by South East London Photographer FT

South East London Photographer Fiona Tanner

South East London photographer Fiona Tanner undertook some Website photographs for the founder of Elysium Coaching.  It is Melanie McCaw’s dream to help disabled women fulfill their full potential.  On a cloudy, yet sunny day in June 2017 we set out to do a number of images which would help to present Melanie’s kind, open, sympathetic and helpful nature to the world!

We started by doing hair and makeup; where Fiona tamed Melanie’s fun, creative dreads into a fish tail plait, of sorts! We then completed makeup in a soft way, concentrating on the lash line, brows, skin and lovely lips.

Fiona Tanner who is a South East London Photographer, then began the shoot by some bright studio shots.  We then used the grounds of Kimatica Studio in New Cross.  A stroll was then taken down to ST Pauls in Deptford.  We undertook a range of head shots, portrait shots and full length sitting shots for her portfolio.

More Information

Melanie McCaw of Elysium Coaching and on Facebook  Excerpt from Melanie’s facebook page…

“I often get asked why I started a coaching business, and why I focus that business solely on disabled women.

My response?

Because I NEEDED to.  There is an unbelievable lack of coaching centred on the needs of disabled women.

To channel my talent for one to one working and seeing women’s hidden gifts and talents into a business that focused on getting disabled women the recognition they deserve.

There are too few of us working that want to work.  Too few of us working in careers we love.

Too few of us leading where we should be leading.  That HAS to change.

It’s time for disabled women to take their place.

It’s time to LEAD.
It’s time to DREAM.
It’s time to ASPIRE.

The world needs you to dare to be more- will you accept the challenge?”

A night for Life-Vintage Hair and Makeup for Host Cliodhna McCorley
8th June 2017

Vintage hair and makeup at a night for life

I was lucky enough to do vintage hair and makeup for the organiser Cliohna McCorley, her mother and best Friend for this momentous event. 1940s style Veronica Lake style locks, 1940s waves and 1920s hair were styled by Fiona Tanner Makeup London.

A Night For Life on the 8th June 2016 was a celebration of music, comedy and magic as stars of stage and screen come together for one night only in aid of the National Brain Appeal.

The evening started with a Champagne reception in the exquisite Silver Gallery. Distinguished guests included sporting stars and celebrities in the stunning Art Deco Ballroom for a lavish banquet approved by Elizabeth Allen, the youngest ever British female to get a Michelin Star.

The nights host was ITV Sport presenter Ed Chamberlin, who guided the audience through an entertainment extravaganza organised by West End Producer Jimmy Jewell, featuring impressionist Jon Culshaw, world class magicians, a luxury live auction with Charlie Ross, stars from the West End productions of Aladdin, Dreamgirls, The Book of Mormon, Wicked and The Lion King, and top names including Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Bridal Makeup artist Fiona Tanner for Syrian Chinese Wedding

Beautiful bride by bridal makeup artist London established Fiona Tanner.  A wedding where two ancient cultures mixed and were merry.  The bride chose a traditional English dress as a mark to her birth country.  Her ancestry home of Syria, where her parents were from was represented by an Arabic drum parade.  Her husband was of Chinese heritage.  A tea ceremony and Dragon dance celebration marked the sunny day.

Wedding makeup and hair was of a classic style.  Long lashes framed a simple look with natural radiant skin which she helped to design with Bridal makeup artist London based Fiona Tanner

Ayurveda, the ancient healing system from India, aims to alleviate suffering by treating the root cause of disease according to our unique constitution, while promoting longevity, balance and happiness. Its sister science Yoga improves health of the body and mind with the ultimate goal of progressing spiritual awakening.Ayurvedic Me aims to ignite self awareness and healing by conveying these ancient principles in a unique way for you, treating conditions such as:

  • Stress, anxiety, depression and nervous disorders

  • Low/compromised immunity and feeling 'run down'
  • Muscle tension and strain
  • Joint stiffness and arthritis
  • Menstrual problems and managing menopausal symptoms

"Health is wealth, happiness is peace of mind..." (Swami Vishnu Devananda)

Ayurveda, meaning 'knowledge of life' is the 5000 year old ancient healing system from India that promotes longevity, balance and happiness. Ayurveda aims to alleviate suffering by treating the root cause of disease according to our unique constitution, known in the ancient language Sanskrit as Prakriti. This is the unique mix of three biophysical forces (doshas): Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which comprise the elements of Ether/Air, Fire/Water and Water/Earth respectively. Less suitable life choices and general life stresses can lead to imbalance in our constitution leaving us vulnerable to those ailments and conditions to which we may be genetically and constitutionally susceptible. Harmonising more closely with the rhythms of nature and rebalancing our constitution through appropriate nutrition, herbs, exercise, relaxation and lifestyle choices together with Ayurvedic therapies, can help to restores health and prevent disease while improving our vitality and happiness.

Fascinating Facts about Elizabethan Cosmetics
elizabethan cosmetics
In the Elizabethan period, the pure, perfect woman was expected to have light hair, a pale white complexion, red cheeks and lips.  In fact, skin care was what most women worried about. Since suntan lotion had not been invented and marks on the face were very common, Elizabethan women came up with many different ways to cover up their imperfections.  Women would paint their faces very white. This makeup was called Venetian ceruse or sometimes just ceruse. It was a lead-based cosmetic item that also contained hydroxide and carbonate. Whenever a new layer of ceruse was needed, women would paint their faces without removing the first layer. This resulted in layers of makeup being on a womans face. Unfortunately, the lead did have side-effects it often turned the womans skin gray. Doctors at the time urged women to use other makeup that used tin ash or alum. Another common base for makeup at the time was talc, boiled white egg or other white products. They also used uncooked egg whites as a glaze for their skin that helped hide wrinkles!  Mercury was a common ingredient in makeup. At that time, it was used to clear the skin of spots and wrinkles, much like today's acne treatment is designed to do. However, the mercury was not treating acne; it was in fact removing the skin and corroding the flesh! If someone found that method didn't work, they might have mixed birch sap, elder leaves, and sulfur, applied it to their skin at night and removed it in the morning. Other forms of skin cleansers were made from urine, rain water, donkeys milk or red wine instead of soap-like ingredients we now use.

Elizabethan women also used red face paint stead of using blush to bring color to their cheeks. It was called fucus and was mainly used on the face and lips, although for lipstick, the most popular choice was vermillion. However, people often used a blend of beeswas and cochineal or madder-based makeup as well. Some types of rouge usually had a base of bears grease and some women even used belladonna drops to make their eyes appear more luminous.

Eye shadow was made from ground mother of pearl. Makeup pencils were made by mixing plant pigments with something called plaster of Paris; the two were mixed together, then molded into shape and left to dry in the sun. These pencils were used to fake eyelashes made of mouse fur.

Sikh Wedding Sunday 15th August 2010
August 16th 2010
I attended my first Sikh wedding yesterday; watching the bride and groom being led around the ceremonial stand 4 different times to honour 4 different prayers and blessings placed upon them. I was up at 4.30 to start makeup and hair-the bride and groom must get married at a certain time as given to them by a spiritual adviser; this ensures that they will have a long and prosperous union.

Styling the Volitains 8th August 2010
August 9th 2010
Fiona Tanner Had a wonderful day on Sunday; styling, hair, makeup and general advising with the Volitains http://www.thevolitains.com/ photo shoot and music video. Assited by Robyn Bartram. Clothes by Beyond Retro, Crusade, Stateless for Men and Petals Loft Vintage. The Track sounds amazing; the very best of luck-if the likes of Cheryl Cole-lovely though talentless can get to number one-its a severe injustice if these guys don't get recognition-what great guys and a gal. MAGIC. Watch this space for the launch date...
